My love is like a roller coaster

I'd prefer to just have one adventure per day but it seems like we are on a nonstop thrill ride right now! Here's a recap of the past few days, it's been a whirlwind!

Last week I had lunches and dinners pretty much every day and night to try and say goodbye to everyone in Dallas. It's was nonstop and I tried to just focus on each moment with each person rather than dwell on the saying goodbye part. I got to go to some cool restaurants in the process. Nosh Euro Bistro in Plano with my parents, Meddlesome Moth in the Dallas design district with friends, Hattie's in the Bishop Arts District with the partners from my firm and Breadwinners in Dallas with friends. Also got one last taste of some local favorites like Picasso's pizza and Chuy's before we left.

Thursday night Victor came into town to help me make the final move up to Oregon. We also sold our car on Thursday night since we decided we didn't want to drive it up to Oregon. That took a couple hours so afterwards we just had dinner with my parents at home.

Friday was my last day at my firm in Dallas that I've spent the last 5 1/2 years at. It was my first job out of college and a place I saw myself at for the long haul. Long story short it was heartbreaking to say goodbye to all the great people there. I'm not a big cryer, but there were definitely tears on Friday! I'll miss that place a lot, but I'll be stopping by when we are back in Dallas for thanksgiving this year!

Friday night we hung out with my parents and finished packing. Saturday morning it was time to go to the airport. We gave the dogs their Benadryl and packed up the car. Flying with dogs is an experience I will not try again unless I have to. Even with the Benadryl the girls were pretty freaked out. Here's some pictures from the airport check in.

Jelly is traumatized.

So the flight was fine, it actually went by really fast and it wasn't too bumpy.

One of the great things about the Portland airport is how fast you get to your gate and how fast the bags come out. We were off the plane and had bags in hand before our scheduled arrival time! However, the dogs took FOREVER to come out. It probably only took twenty or thirty minutes but felt like much longer because we were starting to panic. In the end, the girls were fine and neither had any accidents in their crates during the trip. I was quite impressed! So we loaded up the car and headed home. Amazingly we fit two dogs, two adults, four suitcases and two carry on size bags in the Equinox. Awesome!

We spent the rest of Saturday unpacking boxes and hanging out. After the dogs got some food and water they passed out for most of the day. Jelly was pretty freaked out by the wood floors on our main floor. I think it's the noise her paws make when she walks that she doesn't like. She's fine on the carpeted areas. But by day three she's gotten used to them!

Here are the dogs getting introduced to the backyard. I know it's kinda gross to show a pic of my dog peeing but this is the only one I got with both dogs. They were running around like crazy and only stopped to pee :)

So this brings me to our first surprise of the weekend.

See these piles of dirt? Yep, we have a mole problem. There are six or seven of these big piles in our yard. We also have a bunny problem. The bunnies aren't doing any damage other than taking little bunny poops in the yard which Peanut Butter finds delicious. Sorry that's gross, but it's my life. So we went to HD and got mole traps and will see how that works.

On Sunday we got up and unpacked some more boxes and then headed to the Mini dealership to get my car.

It's pretty awesome! We didn't drive around too much because we wanted to get back to the house and get some more boxes unpacked :) we spent the rest of the day unpacking and victor got the grill put together.

Which brings me to our next surprise. When the movers delivered our washing machine they noticed that one of the feet is broken. They stuffed something under it to try and balance it out and told us to try it and see how it is. So yesterday I did three small loads with no problem. Then last night I went to wash two pillows for our guest room and... Water everywhere! So unless we can get it fixed, we might be getting a new washer. I'm in a little bit of a panic because we already have piles and piles of things to wash and no washing machine, but we'll survive. Luckily the first three loads I did were the guest room sheets so that is all set for my parents to come up on Thursday. Phew!

So it's day three and here's what one of our moving box graveyards looks like.

So many boxes!

Tomorrow will be exciting as we have a few people coming up to install some things and hopefully we get the washing machine situation figured out soon.

I hope you all are enjoying your Memorial day weekend! We're working hard, exhausted, but so far enjoying the new home despite the surprises!

We're homeowners!

This post is way overdue, but as of 2pm on Tuesday we are officially homeowners. Unfortunate we found out on the way to take me to the airport to fly back to Dallas. So I haven't seen the house since it was finished and officially ours. Victor has been an angel this week getting the house ready and dealing with all the movers and deliveries. He's traveling this week and then back to Dallas Thursday night to help me make the final move to Portland! Here are some pictures of the house.

That's all I've got for right now!

This weekend we will fly with the dogs up to Portland. Our vet told us to give the dogs Benadryl instead of a real sedative when they fly. We tried it out this weekend to see how they react. Here's them post-Benadryl

Lol so cute!

This week should be a busy one with all the goodbyes. I'll post more in a few days! Have a great week!

Hiking? Check!

On Sunday we drove out to Multnomah Falls to go hiking. It was only about a thirty minute drive from the hotel. We drove along the Columbia River, along the Oregon/Washington border.

The drive was beautiful and the falls are just amazing!

There's a really nice lodge the has a restaurant, bathrooms, information center and gift shop.

This is us right when we started the 1 mile hike to the top of the falls. It took us about an hour and we scaled up over 600 vertical feet to the top. It was a difficult hike for people that are used to the flatness of Texas. But we are looking forward to coming back and doing some loner, more difficult hikes in the future!

After the hike we drove up to the ski resorts on Mt. Hood. That took a lot longer to get to, but it was really cool to see. There are some crazy ski slopes up there! Looking forward to learning how to ski this winter, on some of the bunny slopes, of course!

Road trip!

Since we weren't moving in this weekend, we decided to go exploring...

On Saturday we got up and drove to the coast. We were already on the west side of town so it only took about an hour and a half. Here's a picture of the drive to the coast.

It was just amazing to drive through hills and forests to get to the beach. Unlike anything I've ever seen, but reminded me of driving to the beach in Brazil.

-

We stopped on the way to take a picture of Mt. hood and Mt. St. Helen's off in the distance.

We went to Seaside first, which was one of the stops made by Lewis and Clark.

It was really beautiful. We had lunch and drove to Cannon Beach. This beach was much nicer than seaside. It looked more like a New England style beach town and was super nice. Looking forward to bringing our parents out there. Here's some pictures of the famous rocks on Cannon Beach.

After spending a few hours driving around we went back to the hotel and got ready for dinner we drove into the city and had dinner at Gruner which was amazing. We wished we could have been moving in this weekend and spending our first weekend together in the new house, but I think we're making the best of it!

We're almost there, hopefully!

So it's been an exciting week, but not the kind of exciting we wanted. We've been delayed on closing on the house due to a mix of problems with the mortgage company and some errors from the builder. And unfortunately an error by one delays the other and vice versa. So we're in a constantly changing timeline but hopefully we will be able to close on Tuesday. I've extended my trip to stay in Oregon until Tuesday because we originally thought we could close today and could have the movers deliver on Monday. But that has been pushed back even more so now I'm basically on a week long vacation in Oregon with not much to do. Victor has been getting some work done and we've been able to pick out a refrigerator, grill and garage door opener and look at other things for the house. But other than that, we're just enjoying the Oregon weather and seeing the sights!

On Tuesday I packed up all my belongings for the movers to come pick up. It was harder than I thought to go through all this stuff and it took me forever. But it got done!

This is just the stuff I've had at my parents house for the past few months. Our furniture and housewares had already been packed up. So once I get back to Dallas I'll be living out of a suitcase for a couple weeks before the final move to Portland.

Here's a view of my flight to Seattle, flying over the mountains. Beautiful! I had a short layover in Seattle and then the quick shuttle flight to Portland. The flights this time really weren't too bad but the shuttle to Portland is always a little bumpy.

Here's Victor trying out some furniture at IKEA. We've got a little formal dining area that we thing down the road we'll put some club chairs in and make a bar area instead of formal dining. And yes, Victor is actually smiling in an IKEA store. A sight I've never seen in almost 9 years :)

So we took care of the necessities: a media stand, refrigerator, garage door opener and a grill. We also got shower curtains and some towels. Those were the things we really NEEDED right away. Everything else we either have already or can add over time. This brings us to our one and only impulse buy: a Keurig. Mind you, we already have a nice coffee maker and a Nespresso maker the we use quite a bit. We love our Nespresso, but I just can't drink espresso all the time, I drink regular coffee on a daily basis. Now I consider myself a fairly intelligent person but for some reason I just cannot figure out coffee makers. I always put in too much water or coffee grinds and it just doesn't turn out right. And with the ease of the Nespresso I have gotten really fond of the prefilled cups and how the machine takes just as much water as it needs to make a single serving. And after using my sisters Keurig while visiting her in Lubbock last weekend that pretty much sealed the deal for me. I just didn't think I'd be able to convince V to buy a Keurig since we don't NEED it.

However, while at JCPenney we stumbled across the display and fell in love. Being the part time couponer that I am, I remembered they were on sale at Target this week and we zoomed right over there and bought one. Then we took it home to the hotel, filled it up with water and made ourselves some coffee! Haha I just find this hilarious. And we were so freaking excited about it too looking through the different K cup offerings like it was Christmas! Here's a picture. V insisted on being the one to open the box!

Pretty exciting stuff! Today Victor's working and I'm just being lazy this afternoon we might go look at some other furniture stores. The last thing we really need to get are some bedside tables for our bedroom. So that's what we're up to! Tomorrow we might go to the coast :) today it's supposed to be "hot" here in Oregon. I think it might get into the mid 70's but cools off into the 40's and 50's at night. Love it!

Have a great weekend!
